Pupil Parliament
We strongly believe that through opportunities to improve and advocate for our school, we will develop students who can, not only have an impact on the future of school, but also have a wider impact on the local community and the wider world. To achieve this at St Chad's we have adopted a pupil parliament model for our pupil voice and leadership. The departments and leadership roles are identified below.
Prefects
Our prefects act as leaders through their actions, responsibilities, and dedication to serving the school community. They play an essential role at lunchtimes in ensuring calm and positive school environment while developing their own leadership skills in the process.
Pupil Parliament Leaders
There are currently 18 Pupil Parliament leaders. These are split into a lead and deputy for each class. They were voted for democratically by all members of each class. The Pupil Parliament is structured much like the government as it is made up of different departments. Each of these departments is designed to have a specific focus on improving our school.
Pupil Parliament promotes pupil leadership opportunities, enabling children to develop valuable communication, organisation and debating skills through key roles of responsibility and new experiences. Pupil Parliament benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their opinions as well as influence the decisions that are made on their behalf.
Worship Leaders
Working within the Department of Values and Worship
We have a fantastic team of worship leaders that help with planning and taking collective worship; as well as being responsible for delivering their own termly collective worship to the whole school. Our worship leaders apply and are appointed to carry out important tasks and roles within the spiritual life of the school. They are also working towards achieving their Archbishop of York’s Young Leader Award.
Education Leaders
Working within the Department of Education
Leaders advocate for student needs and interests within the school. This involves discussing and presenting ideas to improve the school environment, curriculum, facilities, or policies. They will support the teaching and learning lead by assisting her during DR ICE observations.
This team work to promote reading within the school (updating the school library will be their first opportunity this year) and support wider reading initiatives such as our next Blue Peter Challenge.
Environment Leaders
Working within the Department of Environment and Transport
Children work on school based and wider eco- initiatives including recycling and energy use and raising awareness of important environmental issues. This will continue the work of our previous Eco Ambassadors.
Health and Wellbeing Leaders
Working within the Department of Health and Wellbeing
Leaders work with our adult mental health first aiders in school to promote mental health awareness especially on high profile charity days throughout the year and encourage healthy eating habits at lunch and personal development time. They are in charge of establishing and maintaining a peer support programme -‘breaktime buddies’
Art and Culture Leaders
Working within the Department of Art and Culture
This department work together with teachers and leaders to gather feedback and plan for trips and experiences in and out of school.
They will work with our Art Lead to explore ways to integrate arts into other subjects and collaborate with the Education department. They will also help to gather information, design and write our half termly newsletter.
Sports Leaders
Working within the Department of Sport
Leaders will work together with teachers to plan and execute sports tournaments, inter-school competitions and our sports days to encourage participation in various athletic activities. They will gather feedback from all the children to improve sports facilities and equipment within the school throughout the year. They will build on previous years and leads games and sporting activities at break times.
